Art on the Hill 2009 – back for its third year and with much more to dazzle its visitors!
This free community event is open to everyone. You will be welcomed into over 35 artists homes, a gallery, park, church, primary school and community centre to view over 75 artists. The variety of work will be extensive and we can assure you that there will be something for everyone. Painting, sculpture, textiles, glass, drawings, installation, photography, printmaking, ceramics, film and much more will be on show from a hugely diverse group of artists. Much of the work will be for sale and some artists are producing work purely for you to experience over the art trail weekend.
Poetry, a virtual art trail round the park, the Windmill Hill Bard and live music performances from Studio Upstairs will be on show in the new temporary pavilion in Victoria Park – “The Black Cloud” designed by artists Heather and Ivan Morison.
If you want to get creative yourself there will be a range of different children and adult workshops available in The Community Centre on Windmill Hill over the weekend including instrument making, felt making and batik. All workshops will be finishing with a children’s parade around Victoria Park from 5:30pm on Sunday.
Many venues will be providing a delicious variety of homemade cakes and refreshments.

Malago Memories
Local residents have been working on an Oral History Project of the River Malago - Malago Memories. Come along and find out about the many tales, memories and legends about the mighty Malago.
Signing the Malago
The Malago is not always evident as we walk the streets and the arts project "Signing the Malago" aims to make people more aware of its’ passage beneath our feet. The South Bristol Riverscapes Project commissioned Davina Kirkpatrick and children from St Mary Redcliffe Primary School to create enamel panels which were installed last month. Look out for them on Bedminster Road and Whitehouse Lane (map points 3 and 4). There will be a display charting the development of the project in the Community Centre.
The Black Cloud, Victoria Park
"The Black Cloud" is a new temporary pavilion commissioned by Situations – a public art commissioning program. The pavilion was designed by international artists Ivan and Heather Morison. It is made of wood from the artists own arboretum in Wales. The structure takes its form from the "Shabono", a circular structure built by Yanomamo Amer-Indians from the Amazon. It is formed by three successive rings of triangles bolted together to form a strong curving roof with an open centre. The timber has then been scorched using a Japanese technique to create the dark coloured shield. The structure was built by local volunteers and artists during a communal “barn raising” event on 25th July 2009. The pavilion is for public use and will be in the park until 6th December 2009.
David Smith For the more technically minded, David will be intriguing visitors with a virtual art trail round the park using hand held computers powered by GPS.
Trevor Carter The Bard of Windmill Hill will be based in The Black Cloud offering visitors verse and orations for special occasions. Trevor likes to make people think but not to take their thoughts too seriously. His work is rooted in humorous philosophy.
Studio Upstairs will be offering visitors performances of live music and poetry over the two days.
